LIMA 2019 MEDALS WILL BE PRODUCED BY THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF MINING

The countdown has already started and Peru is training to celebrate the largest sporting event in the Americas for the first time in its history: the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games. Around 10,000 athletes and technical officials will arrive for both events and they hope to claim a medal.

Lima 2019 adds an important strategical partner for medal production: the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE), through the campaign “Minería para todos” (everyone’s mining). Thus, SNMPE will be the Official Medal Sponsor of the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

SNMPE will be in charge of producing the medals that will be awarded to athletes reaching the podium during the Pan American and Parapan American Games. During the Pan American Games 39 sports and 62 disciplines competitions will be held, while 17 sports and 18 disciplines will compete during the Parapan American Games.

The agreement was signed by Lima 2019 executive director Carlos Neuhaus Tudela; the president of the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy Manuel Fumagalli, the executive director of the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy Pablo de la Flor Belaunde, and the head of Lima 2019 Commercial Department, José Ruiz de las Heras.

“Peru is a mining country, and following our motto ‘Let’s all play’, the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy enters the game as an important partner. They will be in charge of the medals that will be a product of formal mining and made in Peru. These medals will show representative images of our country to the world. We are grateful for this support,” said Carlos Neuhaus.

Manuel Fumagalli expressed his satisfaction for joining the Lima 2019 team. “We are proud of becoming strategical partners with the delivery of sport medals. Peru is a mining country and we are proud of it. This represent formal employment and mining tradition. Medals will be coated in gold, silver and copper from national operations. We are happy to work with Lima 2019,” he said.

Medals will coined on both sides with iconic images of the Coast, Highlands and Jungle of Ancient Peru. Each medal will have over 80 mm diameter and will weight 300 gr.

They will have a copper base and will be coated in gold and silver. The three metal will be produced by the formal Peruvian mining sector, that employs almost 1.5 millions people directly and indirectly. In addition, they will be coined and coated by Peruvian hands.

Nearly 5000 medals to be delivered

SNMPE through its “Minería de Todos” campaign will deliver a total of 4941 medals for the Pan American and Parapan American Games: 1582 gold, 1582 silver and 1777 bronze medals.

At the Pan American Games 965 gold, 965 silver and 1098 bronze medals will be awarded. This makes a total of 3028 medals to be awarded at these Games.

Meanwhile, the Parapan American Games will award 617 gold, 617 silver and 679 bronze medals, for a total of 1913, from August 23 to September 1.

The Pan American Games medals will be delivered to the Organizing Committee on June 26, 2019, one month before the opening ceremony that will take place at the National Stadium. Medal delivery for the Parapan American Games will be on July 23, one month before their official opening ceremony.
