Punta Rocas beach is closely related to surf in Peru since that time when Felipe Pomar conquered the waves and won the World Surfing Championship in 1965. Having a high performance center in an area where we have had so many talents is great.
The President of COPAL, Carlos Neuhaus, is as excited as the athletes who complete. The legacy after the Pan American Games is great, specially because it will allow us do to a job already admired around the world and shared by the Inka Team ambassadors.
“This beach has been the National Stadium of Surf in Peru. Having it turned into a high performance center is great progress but it will remain for generations to come. This area has the best waves of Peru and it shall continue to provide us with world champions”, mentioned Neuhaus.
Coaches from the national federation of surf participated in the visit: Renato Quezada, coach Oswaldo Vélez. We also had surfers Melanie Giunta, Daniela Rosas and Tamil Martino. Coach from the national team from Ecuador, Marcos Goncalves and two athletes part of the delegation for Lima 2019 also attended.
“This high performance center will allow us to consolidate a work which has not stopped since we started to compete at the world level. We can keep recruiting people from Huanchaco, Cerro Azul, Lobitos, Máncora and, why not, other parts of Peru interested in sports and in being an Inka Team ambassador”, mentioned Quezada.
