The Awareness Workshop, organized by the National Paralympic Association of Peru and aimed at journalists and sports journalism students, provided them with valuable information. Everyone learned the correct terms to use when covering sports events, and incredible life lessons from our most outstanding Para athletes.
The event, held at the National Stadium, coincided with the “100 days to go until the Parapan American Games” celebrations. In this context, Para athletes José Luis Casas and Carlos Felipa, Para swimmer Juan León Durán, and Toronto 76 Paralympic medalist José Gonzales Mugaburu shared how they are preparing to win a medal at the Lima 2019 Games.
“Representing the country in such an important event as the Parapan American Games fills us with great pride; just as great as our desire to move forward. There is no impairment that can stop our drive. Maybe I don’t have two whole lower limbs, but I feel like I run in the water,” said Juan León, in one of the most emotional speeches of the day.
The lectures are part of a program for the correct use of terms regarding the disciplines of the Parapan American Games. They were overseen by ANPPERÚ President Lucha Villar Gálvez, ANPPERÚ Director Jaime Drago, and journalists Talía Vargas and Patrick Espejo.
