This coliseum, located in the Callao district, will gather America’s best wrestlers to see them in action from August 7-10. Among them are two world athletes who will arrive at Lima 2019 to continue succeeding. Greco-Roman wrestling Cuban multi-medalist, Mijaín López, and the American big star of the freestyle wrestling discipline, Kyle Snyder, will shake the courts of the Callao’s stage.
Mijaín López will seek to increase his personal list of triumphs in the 130 kg weight division, including a gold medal at the Pan American Games. In addition, López, one of Cuba’s sports living legends, will arrive as flag bearer of his delegation and as a member of the Panam Sports Team.
Mijaín won gold medals at the Santo Domingo 2003, Rio de Janeiro 2007, Guadalajara 2011, and Toronto 2015 Pan American Games. He has claimed three titles at the Olympic Games (Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio 2016) and is a five-time world champion. The event will take place next August 8 starting at 10:00.
Meanwhile, the American athlete Kyle Snyder will be the center of attraction of the freestyle wrestling discipline. After becoming an Olympic medalist at Rio 2016 and winning first place at the 2015 and 2017 World Championships, he will compete for the gold medal at the Pan American Games. The current champion of the 97 kg weight division is wrestling’s big world star, and all sports fans will be able to see him this August 10.

REACHING THE PODIUM
The Peruvian delegation is made up of 18 athletes covering each division, including freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Thalía Mallqui will be one of the main national candidates in the 50 kg weight division of the freestyle category and will try to win the gold medal this August 8. She was silver medalist at Toronto 2015 and gold medalist at the Santa Marta 2017 Bolivarian Games.
For the freestyle category, Samuel Alva (57 kg), Sixto Auccapiña (65 kg), Abel Herrera (74 kg), Pool Ambrocio (86 kg), Kensil Grajales (97 kg), and Andrew Gunning (125 kg) will compete at the Games. Meanwhile, Joao Benavides, Nilton Soto, Jeancarlo Canchumanta, Diego Cárdenas, Li Castillo, and Daniel Medina will represent Peru in the Greco-Roman discipline.
A total of 150 athletes from the continent will compete in 12 men’s divisions (divided equally between Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling). All wrestling competitions will start this August 7. Also, the first medal ceremonies for five Greco-Roman divisions will be held that the same day.
ABOUT LIMA 2019
The opening ceremony of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games will be held at the National Stadium on July 26, 2019. This continental event will gather 6680 athletes from 41 countries and delegations from the Americas.
There will be 17 days of competitions and ceremonies between July 26 and August 11, 2019, which will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao. Some of the venues are the VIDENA, Villa María Sports Center, Callao Regional Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 61 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 22 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
