The public was struck by every spontaneous gesture of Usain Bolt during his visit to the VIDENA’s Athletics Stadium, which was remodeled by Lima 2019 for the Pan American and Parapan American Games. The fastest athlete in history left his mark on a concrete frame that will be on the hall of fame of this impressive venue, and the spontaneity will be remembered by all.
The Jamaican record holder praised the infrastructure that Lima 2019 will leave as a legacy for Peruvian sports, and even encouraged our athletes to benefit from this first-level track that will house the athletics competitions during the Games. Peruvian athletes share the same enthusiasm, and they will do their best starting this Saturday, April 6, during the third qualifying test of the Peruvian Athletics Federation. Free Admission
Paola Mautino, considered the best Peruvian athlete in 2018, stated that it is an honor that a legend like Bolt wishes them luck at the Pan American Games. “It’s a great motivation for Peruvian athletes because a world star encouraged us to break all records in this imposing scenario,” said the Peruvian long jump winner.
On the other hand, Fabrizio Vizcarra thinks that Peruvian athletics was lucky because Bolt will be the godfather of this amazing Athletics Stadium. “He’s our role model and we were dying to meet him. This visit will go down in history,” said the 100-meter athlete.
LET’S IMPROVE OUR RECORDS
After the handover of the Athletics Stadium, the Peruvian Athletics Federation will start a competition cycle that will end with their participation in the Pan American Games. Moreover, the Saturday test will help Peruvian representatives adapt to the new track and improve their records for Lima 2019.
Additionally, the South American Senior Championship will take place from May 24 to 26 at the VIDENA. This championship will be a test event for the Organizing Committee to evaluate all operational aspects for the Pan American and Parapan American Games, scheduled to start in July.
Usain Bolt made it clear: this scenario is an amazing gift for any athlete as it is fully equipped. So, we expect to see more Peruvian athletes competing at top international events in the future. This track is a sports legacy that will undoubtedly remain for the next generations.
