VANIA MASIAS AND BALICH WORLWIDE SHOWS START CASTING VOLUNTEER ARTISTS FOR LIMA 2019 CEREMONIES

Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games opening and closing ceremonies will have a large group of young and enthusiastic volunteer artists committed to deliver a great performance at the National Stadium celebrations. They are participating in the ‘Talento Artístico’ call, launched by the Games Organizing Committee by the end of March to recruit the dance troupe and extras that will be part of the four ceremonies. ‘Talento Artístico’ enters now a very important stage: the casting stage.

To date, over 10,000 applicants registered through the website https://www.lima2019.pe/ceremonias/inscripciones. Requisites included being fans of art and culture, being over 16 years old, and being very passionate. From this group, 1700 volunteers artists will be selected to dance at the National Stadium as part of choreographies or supporting the event production.

Selected volunteers will receive a three-month training with Balich Worldwide Shows, the Italian company in charge of the Games ceremonies, and they will be coordinated by 150 professional dancers and 13 national choreographers, lead by Vania Masias as choreography director.

The famous Peruvian dancer highlighted the opportunity the Lima 2019 ceremonies represent for participating young volunteers: “Young artists participation in these ceremonies is a community experience, were they will learn not only dance steps, but also the organization of an international event. They will learn that we can do much more together, and that it is the only way to build a better country that works towards excellency.”

She added “the legacy this young artists will have is one of professionalism, that we want to leave for every Peruvian artist in the future. Being part of a production of this level will give them the ability to replicate it with their teams, and create a domino effect to transfer values and knowledge, very powerful at national level.”

The Jury in charge of casting will be composed by Balich choreography director, Dimitra Kritikidi, who will be supported by Vania Masias and Renata Vieitas, as well as by five local assistants.

Other selection criteria for the Lima 2019 ceremonies include different profiles and diverse skills, from actors and acrobats to people with specific skills such as parkour, walking with stilts and Peruvian cajon players, all committed to the level of enthusiasm and energy Lima 2019 ceremonies will require.

The Pan American Games Opening Ceremony will take place the night of July 26, with the 41 delegations making their first appearance at the National Stadium. It will have a display of more than a thousand artists, including dancers, acrobats and musicians live. The Closing Ceremony will be on August 11. For the Parapan American Games, the Opening Ceremony will be held on August 23 and the fourth and last ceremony, the Closing Ceremony, will be held on September 1.
