The Pan American Torch is already traveling across the country and excitement about the Lima 2019 Games keeps growing. Venue districts such as Villa El Salvador are no strangers to this celebration and carry out activities to promote this sporting event.
In this context, the Soy Lima 2019 campaign was present at República de Bolivia school in Villa El Salvador, together with fronton athlete Gonzalo Bezada, who will participate in Basque Pelota, in Frontenis events. He will be one of the Peruvian representatives for the Pan American Games.
Bezada was very excited about the students’ welcome. They learned about sport values and the sports that will be featured at the Pan American Games starting on July 26.
“It's the first time I've come to teach about Basque Pelota and I'm really happy that many people are getting to know it. The students made me feel like I was at school,” said Gonzalo Bezada.
“It is always important that qualified athletes, who represent our country, come to our school, so the students get motivated to do other sports,” said José Antonio Auccahuasi, the school vice principal.
The school is close to the Sports Center and the Pan American Village, so students can learn more about the start of the Pan American and Parapan American Games, as well as the values they represent.
“It is essential for students to reflect on sports practice and realize that not only winning is important, but also keeping solidarity and respect in mind in every competition,” said José Antonio.
For Gonzalo Bezada, sports open many doors and they are a great opportunity for young people to represent Peru. “Sports allow us to learn about other countries and meet more people; most importantly, it's helpful for our lives,” he said.
Basque pelota competitions will take place at the Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center from August 4 to 10. Peruvian fans are expected to fill the venue to cheer for their team. “There are many medalist athletes in Peru and we do not know them. So, now it is time to do it and support them,” concluded Gonzalo.
