Artistic: It is considered one of the most popular and ancient disciplines in gymnastics. It has a great number of fans worldwide for its challenging routines.

Exercises require great strength. The difficulty of each movement, the skill of executions are the most important aspects. However, they are not the only skills needed to make a great presentation and secure a better evaluation from the judges. Elegance and strength are also required.

This sport must be practiced in specific apparatuses: six for men (floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel and horizontal bars) and four for women (vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor).

Rhythmic: A great musical sense, coordination, rhythm and precise movements are among the elements of a good practice of rhythmic gymnastics. Only women can compete and show their athletic level.

In competitions with hoops, rope, ball and ribbon, athletes mustperform delicate and amazing movements along with music, in a competition floor of 13 m x 13 m.

Athletes must always have an apparatus and perform choreographed movements such as spins, jumps, throws and catches.

Body work in this discipline is demanding and goes hand in hand with the expression and the style of the athlete’s dance. All these traits are qualified by judges, who evaluate every detail.

The routine must have 10 elements for men’s and 8 for women’s. The competition program may include team and individual competition or apparatuses finals.

Trampoline: This new discipline has only eight years in the Pan American program. However, it has captivated numerous fans. It is considered one of the most recent sport competitions launched in the Guadalajara 2011 Games in Mexico.

This discipline includes a specialized routine executed on a trampoline of 4.28 m x 2.14 m, in which athletes have to use their strength, dexterity and agility, before a jury that will score a 10 element routine, very similar to artistic gymnastics.

A jump sequence and spins —straight or tucked— with a number of twists are performed during the event. It is very important that athletes show the degree of difficulty of acrobatics, as this will ensure a better score.
