Four reasons why you cannot miss Lima 2019
If you still do not know why you should go to the Lima 2019 competitions, here are some reasons.
From July 26, Lima will be in the spotlight. If you do not want to miss this sports celebration, read on.
In just over a month, Lima will be the Americas’ sports capital when hosting the Pan American Games. This will be the most important event organized in Peru and will mark a before and after in several ways.
We need to realize that this kind of international championships is not often held in Lima. Once the athletes and technical officials leave the city, who knows when we will see another competition like this?
So here are some reasons why you cannot miss Lima 2019.
You will witness a dream come true for many athletes
We will host 39 sports and 61 disciplines during the 17 days of competitions. From these, 22 will be qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. This is why the best athletes and main sports stars will visit our venues.
The following competitions are qualifiers for Tokyo 2020: athletics, badminton, handball, swimming, artistic swimming, diving, equestrian jumps, dressage, eventing, hockey, kata and kumite in karate, pentathlon, weightlifting, surfing, tennis, table tennis, shooting, archery, triathlon, sailing and water polo.
A Tokyo 2020 preview
Other sports will be a preview of what next year’s Olympics will feature. Before their Olympic debut in Tokyo, karate and surfing will be featured in Lima. Baseball and softball, which return to the Olympic program, will also be played in our city.
Following the example of the Olympic program, new disciplines have also been included, such as 3x3 basketball and mixed-team events in sports such as triathlon and archery. Something never seen before at the Pan American Games!
Sports not featuring in Tokyo 2020
The Pan American and Olympic programs are similar, but they also have some peculiar differences. Basque pelota, bodybuilding, bowling, racquetball, roller sports (figure skating and speed skating), squash and water skiing are Pan American sports that will only be included in Lima 2019 and not in Japan.
More women's disciplines
Lima 2019 joined the proposal made by the International Olympic Committee to promote gender equality through women's events such as boxing, to which two weight categories were added.
