Equestrian disciplines you should know
Nowadays, equestrian disciplines have become Olympic sports. There is even an International Equestrian Federation, which rules the disciplines and regularly organizes competitions such as the World Equestrian Games.
Here we will tell you about three of them, which will feature among the Pan American Games competitions, but you should know that there are another three.
1. Jumping: This is one of the most popular equestrian disciplines in the world. It shows the technique and the synchronization between rider and horse, who must jump over a series of perfectly arranged obstacles together. It takes a lot of ability, control, speed and courage to make the most complex movements along a fifteen-jump course, in which you should not knock down any obstacles or incur in any fault, as far as possible. At the end, the winning team will be the one incurring in the least faults in the shortest time.
2. Dressage: It is the ultimate expression of elegance, in a perfect balance with horse training. For Dressage events, the rider and the horse arrive at a 60-meter arena where walking, jogging and galloping will be performed before a group of judges according to a prescribed pattern.
The team will also be evaluated in a freestyle routine and a choreography where rider and horse must go to the beat of the music.
3. Eventing: This discipline is a combination of the best of equestrian sports, as it combines jumping, dressage and cross country. For three days, riders and horses go through a series of tests which are part of these disciplines.
The complexity of these exhibitions is evaluated, as well as the performance of rider and horse together. Because of all these features, this discipline is regarded as the triathlon of the equestrian world.
