The Pan American Torch Arrives in Peru

It is said that the spirit of sport lives in the Pan American Torch, the flame ignited every four years to travel the roads of the country hosting the Pan American Games, carrying a message of integration and brotherhood to the whole world.

The Torch Arrived to Peru!

This time we have the honor of hosting thismajor sport event, where the best athletes and Para athletes will show their skills to the world, promoting the Games values.

They will show the world the rich Peruvian culture as thousands of visitors will come from every corner to be part of Lima 2019.

The Flame Lighting Ceremony was held on July 2, at the Templo del Dios Sol in Teotihuacan, Mexico. Here, the New Fire —lit up flame prior to the relay— started to unite two ancient cultures: the Aztec and the Incan.

Our ambassador,  Alexandra Grande was the first Peruvian athlete to become a Torchbearer, along with Pilar Jáuregui, Para badminton athlete. Both carried the flame with pride.

With this event starts one of the biggest world sport celebration and we are all invited!

The route that shines

The Pan American Torch, through a 22 days relay that will go across 14 departments and 19 cities, wants to inspire and interest thousands of people, visiting historic, cultural and natural Peruvian landmarks. A relay we definitely cannot miss!

Mexican starts the Pan American Torch Lightning at the Temple of Teotihuacan, Mexico

The journey starts at the citadel of Machu Picchu on Friday 5 and it will visit cities such as Cusco, Puno, Arequipa, Moquegua, Camaná, Ica, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Huancayo, Cerro de Pasco, Huánuco, Tocache, Tarapoto, Bagua Grande, Piura, Cajamarca, Trujillo and Huaraz.

It will reach the Plaza Mayor de Lima on July 25. On the next day, its relay will end at the opening ceremony at the National Stadium. There will be 900 Peruvian torchbearers lightning up the road with the Pan American Torch.

All torchbearers went through an extensive selection process that considered traits such as friendship, respect, excellence, determination, inspiration, courage and equality, all essential characteristics to be part of this elite group.
