LIMA 2019 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR VISITED ROADWORKS FOR THE GAMES WITH THE MAYOR OF LIMA

This morning the Lima 2019 Executive Director Carlos Neuhaus with the Mayor of Lima, Jorge Muñoz, visited the roadworks intended for the Pan American and Parapan American Games. The roadworks are part of the commitment of the Municipality of Lima and will have a positive impact on the traffic in our city during the most important multi-sport event in the Americas.

The authorities visited roadworks that will be part of the circuit linking the competition venues, accommodations and other areas during the Lima 2019 Games: sections between Costa Verde, Rafael Escardó avenues and Virú street in San Miguel, the Armendáriz viaduct and the improvement of Los Héroes and Pachacútec avenues in Southern Lima.

The current roadworks in the district of San Miguel will have a direct route linking the districts of Chorrillos and La Punta and will connect with the existing roads within the beach circuit. All this to create a direct route between the capital and the first port.

“It’s going to be very useful during Games time, as it will help people coming from the airport to travel. Currently there is a 32% progress of the road that will be delivered within the first two weeks of June. We will use these connections and exits to the airport,” Mayor Muñoz stated.

The Armendáriz viaduct, between the districts of Miraflores and Barranco, will be part of the urban design of the coastline road and will improve traffic flow and connectivity. It will avoid additional travel time and a turn when reaching the Barranquito beach.

Neuhaus was impressed by the progress in this area and stressed how important these works are for the Games. He insisted Lima 2019 Organizing Committee not only focuses on the immediate benefits but in the legacy for all the Peruvians.

“This is amazing. The roadworks are very impressive. They will be very useful to alleviate traffic during and after the Games, definitely,” Neuhaus assured.

Mayor Muñoz agreed and said this will be the real impact of Lima 2019.

“The important thing about the Pan American and Parapan American Games is that they will leave a legacy. The legacy is huge since it includes improved stadiums and better service levels. What it is important is that everything is for the benefit the citizens.”

Los Héroes and Pachacútec Avenues

Finally, in their visit they saw the improvement of Los Héroes and Pachacútec avenues in Southern Lima, which will be an important urban road. It mainly passes from north to south, starting at Atocongo bridge in the district of San Juan de Miraflores and up to the crossing with Lima avenue in the district of Villa El Salvador.
