Huanuco will receive the Pan American Torch and its bearers with its welcoming people and warm weather.
Forty torchbearers will carry the torch in a 7 km relay, from the Heraclio Tapia stadium to the Main Square of Huanuco and across the beautiful San Sebastian church.
There are two MVP torchbearers, Luis Enrique Alvarado Ocampo, a young athlete who was bullied at school because of his sexual orientation. Luis Enrique won a 200 meters javelin contest during those hard times, however, when his sexual orientation was known, many doors closed for him. He dreams of competing against the legend Usain Bolt in a marathon, and he is determined to achieve it despite all. This young athlete believes that carrying the Pan American Torch can help him reach his goals.
The other torchbearer in the spotlight is Manuel Sadi Sánchez Rubio, a South American athlete with outstanding participations in different competitions. He won several bronze, silver and gold medals in championships organized by the Athletics Federation and at the National School Sports Games, organized by the Ministry of Education.
The Pan American Torch relay in Peru is making history and changing lives. The torch is scheduled to arrive in Lima on July 26, for the start of the Pan American Games.
