PERUVIAN POLICE AND ITS IMPORTANT ROLE SAFEKEEPING THE PAN AMERICAN TORCH

They are attentive and able to assist at every kilometer along the route. Twenty two Peruvian police officers work around the clock, whether guiding the caravan, clearing the roads or coordinating the security of each entourage member, to ensure the arrival of the Pan American Torch and its crew in Lima. For this purpose, they prepared the “General Pan American Torch Route Plan,” which includes different provisions and tactical actions focused on ensuring that everything results as expected. This plan was developed months ahead of this major event.

Twenty of the 22 police officers, who make up the special security team, are distributed in four police pick-ups that escort the standard caravan, and the remaining two officers are assigned to the main operations, that is, the team who visits points of interest for tourists. They are also equipped with weapons and ammunition to be used if necessary.

However, this is not their only role, they are also in constant coordination with the special security team assigned by the Peruvian Armed Forces for this major and historic task. The role of the Peruvian Police is essential to avoid any incident during this sports celebration.

There will always be police officers protecting the entourage and providing all necessary support in each city visited, each stretch of the national road network through which the Pan American convoy is deployed. The officers are members of the Highway Police unit of the cities visited. The local police units are in charge of guarding hotels and points where the Pan American torch will tour. All coordinations are made  in advance and always covering any emergency that may arise with well-structured contingency plans. Police support is essential, considering that it is expected to visit 18 cities in the three regions of Peru: The Coast, Highlands and Jungle.

Commander Manuel Chuquipul is in charge of the coordinations in each city. It is for him one of the most important tasks he has been assigned in his career.

Everyone contributes to this sport adventure that becomes more endearing every day. The days go on, joy spreads from city to city and if you feel you're enjoying this celebration peacefully, don't forget that the Peruvian Police is working to keep it that way, everyday.
