Authorities, athletes and volunteers attended the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee’s launch of the “Let’s all paint, let’s all play” campaign. The campaign’s objective is to beautify the façades of the homes located in the vicinity of the Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center, a Pan American and Parapan American Games competition venue.
Also present at the event were Amalia Moreno, Lima 2019 executive secretary; Wilhelm Funcke, Lima 2019 Infrastructure manager; Alonso Llacchua, official of the Villa María del Triunfo municipality; and Gonzalo Bezada, member of Peru’s Basque pelota national team and resident of the district.
Amalia Moreno was very excited for the start of this Lima 2019 social initiative for the community. “There is a phrase I really like: alone we are nothing, together we can do everything. This is a great example of what we can do as a group. Volunteers, residents and members of Lima 2019 have decided to help with this great task,” she said.
“I brought my son so he can learn the value of working for his community and what it means to help others,” she noted.
“It is a matter of solidarity that benefits all of us. The residents will benefit from this because their homes façades will look prettier while the spectators attending the events will see, in addition to a modern sports center, renovated homes. We hope all the residents pitch in and we invite everyone that wants to join this campaign,” said Funcke.
Gonzalo Bezada, is one of the athletes that lives in the venue’s surroundings and he also decided to pitch in. “I’m happy this work is being done around the sports center, it will look amazing. I didn’t know the homes were going to be painted, but it’s a great gesture on behalf of Lima 2019, management is top-notch and let’s hope more people join and help out. I’m going to tell all my friends so that they can come paint too,” he noted.
Milco, the official mascot of the Games, alongside Lima 2019 authorities, volunteers and the athlete Gonzalo Bezada, started by sanding and cleaning the walls of José Antonio Moreno’s house, who became the first to benefit from this campaign. “I’m 73 years old, I’ve lived here nearly 50 years and it’s very special to have the district beautified and, above all, my home,” said the resident.
Volunteer Program members, Villa María del Triunfo families and authorities, as well as members of Lima 2019, will participate in the day of painting led by Lima 2019, that will last 6 days and have a total of 12 shifts during weekends.
Hence, over 200 families from Los Pinos, Buenos Aires, 30 de Agosto, Las Casuarinas, Juan Velasco Alvarado Alta and Baja, and José Carlos Mariátegui, will benefit from the beautification of homes so that the district will be prepared to host athletes and tourists from the Americas.
The improvements efforts will have the support of 10 crews of painters and be supervised by 10 specialist technicians from the Sacyr – SACEEM Consortium. This job will require 1400 gallons of paint, 1244 gallons of primer and 100 gallons of sealant donated by the company QROMA.
VILLA MARÍA DEL TRIUNFO SPORTS CENTER
