The enthusiasm of the children in each sports activity embodies the true spirit of the Pan American Games. The “Rugby Day” celebration organized by the UK Embassy was the clearest example of how one can transmit values through sports. Lima 2019 joined the initiative that took place in the district of Magdalena del Mar.
Carlos Neuhaus, president of the Pan American and Parapan American Games Organizing Committee, took part in the activity alongside Kate Harrison, UK ambassador to Peru; Carlomagno Chacón, mayor of Magdalena del Mar; and Néstor Corbetto, president of the Peruvian Rugby Federation.
“The United Kingdom’s support for sports is important because it creates a productive and healthy activity for our society. The English people are an example we can follow to uncover new sports values, and Lima 2019 will be a great driving force. Each day we draw closer to this great celebration, so, let’s all play,” said Neuhaus.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Harrison stated, “We are pleased to share with Peruvian society the values of rugby for the British. The important value that rugby promotes is teamwork. Therefore, I would like to congratulate Peru for organizing Lima 2019, which will be a historic moment and a unique experience.”
Peru’s women’s national rugby team, alongside their coach Pablo Vila, conducted a workshop aimed at promoting the main cornerstones of the sport, based on discipline and solidarity. The “Tumis” will compete in Lima 2019 starting on July 26. The competition will take place at the Andrés Avelino Cáceres Sports Center in Villa María del Triunfo.
