The Flame of the Lima 2019 Games traveled to the Peruvian jungle, with the support of the Peruvian Air Force, in an outstanding operation prior to the great celebration taking place in Tarapoto. At the end, an unforgettable celebration took place at the Max Agustín stadium in Iquitos.
The torch that left Teotihuacán on July 2 continues delighting people every day. This time the Flame began to shine at 07:00 at the Tarapoto Air Base, where Peruvian Air Force Commander Eugenio Sánchez raised the torch of the Lima 2019 Games and said: “It has been a great honor for me to raise this torch with the Flame and carry it during its route throughout Peru.”
After the celebration of the Pan American Flame at the Tarapoto Air Base, it immediately flew to Iquitos, where three torchbearers were waiting to continue with the torch relay celebration: Colonel Carlos Cerna Barra, Second Lieutenant Francisco Bances Rivera and Sub Officer Brenda Jiménez Monterrey. Likewise, there was an exhibition of a small plane landing on a water surface at the Iquitos Air Base, before saying goodbye to the Pan American Flame.
The most touching moment of the day happened when the torch arrived at the Max Agustín stadium in Iquitos. The welcome given by a group of 50 teenagers from Loreto will remain as one of the most beautiful moments of this Lima 2019 torch relay across Peru. They displayed banners asking for respect and protection for children and teenagers in Peru, to eliminate any form of violence against them. This initiative is encouraged by the Organizing Committee of the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games together with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The torch relay delights people and continues its journey visiting the Max Agustín stadium in Iquitos, where four athletes from Loreto (Frank Sánchez, James Cisneros, Cristopher Curto and Emily Fachin), joined the celebration.
