Sharing the happiness and excitement of hundreds of young and senior citizens who packed out the Mario Vargas Llosa Theater, Prime Minister Salvador Del Solar delivered a hopeful speech for the future of the country, with sports as one of the main points.
“We were about to give up hosting the Pan American and Parapan American Games, but now we're about to organize the Games with facilities built on time and with a lower budget than we've had in the beginning. We've shown, as a country, that we're organized and have a great future. If we're together, we are capable of doing everything. The concept of willingness should be considered all the time. Doing something without expecting anything in return, as you (volunteers) are doing it,” the Prime Minister expressed.
“That will to be free and independent made us a republic. A country that wants to govern itself. Nineteen thousand volunteers who said they wanted to be part of these Games and be part of the history. They're an army of people willing to deliver the best Games in the continent. The next challenge will be the legacy that will remain after the Games, that will transform us as a country. One of the legacies is also the volunteers. For the upcoming bicentennial celebrations, we expect to have trained volunteers who will be still needed. We're a supportive country, that is why we're fighting against problems. We want to change our country, to stop violence against women. We're not staying put,” the Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers added.
The Prime Minister said there are a lot of people willing to help others. “The volunteers give their time and effort for the benefit of others. They use their imagination. They don't only seek their benefit. They're bold and courageous when working for a developing republic. Thank you (volunteers) for being willing to transform our country,” said the head of the cabinet, who was applauded by all the volunteers and attendees.
