The Dominican Republic is one of the delegations working hard to perform well at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. Garibaldy Bautista, who is also the treasurer of the Dominican Olympic Committee and president of the Dominican Republic Softball Federation, visited Lima.
Bautista arrived in Peru as chef de mission and was part of the group of sports leaders who visited the various competition and accommodation venues. He was impressed by the progress made so far.
“I am pleasantly impressed. The reports we receive from Lima 2019 are helpful for all the chefs de mission. It is pleasing to know about the progress of the Pan American Games so far You’re at a very crucial point in time,” said the sports official.
The Dominican Republic expects to give a great performance at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. “Our main goal is to participate in the various sports and represent our country with honor, while trying to take home the most medals as possible,” said Bautista.
Team sports
Garibaldy Bautista acknowledged that the Dominican delegation could obtain better results in team sports at Lima 2019. “We will be represented by our best athletes, especially in women’s Volleyball and in Baseball, in which we hope to qualify to compete at Lima.”
“Our athletics team is also well prepared, as well as other sports that have also shown progress. For example, an athlete who stands out is Luguelín Santos, a Central American gold medalist, who also has a world ranking (in 400 meters),” he stated.
The Dominican leader assured that his delegation aims to make it to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games by qualifying in the disciplines competing at Lima 2019. “It is normal for there to be a qualifying process for the Olympic Games in Games of this magnitude. We hope to add up as many points as we can to qualify in the sports in which we will participate,” he added.
Finally, Bautista expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received in Peru during the days he spent with the sports leaders of the Americas. “Peru is a very nice place. I’m delighted to be in your country. We were very well received, that’s why we feel comfortable and pleased with all the attention we given here,” emphasized the Dominican Chef de Mission. He and his delegation will be in our country next July during the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
