The arrival of the Lima 2019 Games Flame in Ayacucho was a memorable celebration. But expectations were surpassed from the starting point at the Los Libertadores road, that was the perfect stage for the traditional representation of the Huari warriors.
The first Pan American torchbearer was the athlete Enrique Cárdenas from Ayacucho who will participate in the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. The flame was carried by 28 citizens among qualified athletes and regional authorities over a 6 km relay.
Regional Governor Carlos Rúa joined the relay team at the Huamanga main square, where traditional dances from Ayacucho and fireworks were shown. The governor also gave beautiful retablos from Ayacucho (portable boxes representing scenes) to the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee, as a Peruvian souvenir of this historic city.
The celebration was so big that the streets were packed of spectators and people dancing marinera from Ayacucho, as well as songs from the Axé Bahía band. The Alas Peruanas University prepared a total of 10 folk parades for this unforgettable celebration, which ended with the lighting of the cauldron by the South American runner-up Rolando Serrano Retamozo.
