testPARA TAEKWONDO

OVERVIEW

Para taekwondo is an adaptation of taekwondo and is practiced by persons with upper limb impairment. Para athletes will compete in the Kyorugi discipline: Kicks to the opponent’s trunk. Points are awarded according to power and technique. Kicks to the head are invalid. The competition has six weight categories (three for men and three for women) and in direct elimination brackets with the possibility of repechage.

HISTORY

Taekwondo is a martial art born in South Korea around 50 BC. Taekwondo stands for “the way of hand and foot.” Para taekwondo will be part of the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games, one year before its debut at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
