OVERVIEW

The most popular sport in the world is played by two teams of eleven players each. The team that scores the most goals with their feet (although the chest and head are accepted) wins. Only goalkeepers may use their hands to catch the ball within their designated area.

HISTORY

Football dates back to medieval England but continued to evolve until basic rules were implemented in 1863. Men’s football is part of the Pan American program since the Buenos Aires 1951 Games and women’s football since Winnipeg 1999.
