Field hockey is a sport in which two teams aim to take the ball to the opponent’s goal using only a hockey stick. The goalkeeper is the only player allowed to use any part of their body to prevent a goal.
Hockey comes from the Old French word “hoquet” that is a curved stick used by shepherds. Its origin is still somewhat unclear, but many old civilizations have records of two people playing against each other with a curved stick and a ball, such as Egyptians, Greeks, Mongolians, Mapuches, etc. The Incas had their own version called “Gallado”.
