OVERVIEW
Two players (singles) or two pairs of players (doubles) compete in this sport. The objective is to hit a ball into the rival’s court using a racket without it being returned. The court is rectangular and can have a clay, hard or grass surface.
HISTORY
By the end of the eighteenth and the beginning of the nineteenth century, racket sports emerged in England. Wimbledon, the first tennis tournament, took place in 1877.
