OVERVIEW
The open water swimming discipline takes place in open natural spaces, such as the sea, bays, channels, lakes or rivers.
HISTORY
The first evidence of this sport was recorded on May 3, 1810. English poet Lord Byron became the first person to swim across the Hellespont strait in Turkey, which separates Europe from Asia and is also known as the Dardanelles Strait. This event is still being held with swimmers from all over the world.
